Lymphedema Center
Lymphedema is a protein rich edema that is caused by malformation or destruction of the lymphatic system. Damage can occur from surgical interventions/radiation or trauma and can also occur at birth. When damage occurs to the lymphatic system, protein and water accumulate in the superficial tissues causing “swelling”. Lymphedema is a chronic to progressive disease that can usually be brought under control with proper care by a physician and qualified therapist. There is no cure for lymphedema, but there is a treatment.
Our center uses the Casley-Smith method of Complex Lymphedema Therapy to help individuals improve and manage this disorder. Treatments may include: lymphatic drainage, compression bandaging or garments, skin care, and/or therapeutic exercises.
